A 35-year-old man in Tiberias has been indicted for allegedly leaping from his balcony onto a neighbor's balcony, attacking her current partner with a paving stone, and striking him in the head. The incident occurred on October 21, according to police. The indictment charges the man with assault causing actual bodily harm.
Police were responding to a report of a restraining order violation when the assault took place. The woman and her ex-partner were in the process of divorce, and she was hosting her current partner at her home, which violated an order prohibiting him from approaching her children. As officers were questioning the woman, the suspect allegedly emerged from his adjacent balcony, armed with the stone, and struck the partner in the head in front of the police.
Officers apprehended the suspect, who turned out to be the woman's neighbor. During questioning, the accused admitted to the act and claimed his motive was religious. He stated that his neighbor's relationship was unacceptable according to his religious beliefs, citing Rabbi Nachman, and called it forbidden by the Torah. He also reportedly said he would have killed the partner if given the chance.
The suspect, who has no prior criminal record, is being represented by attorney Yuval Zulti of the Public Defense. Zulti stated that his client is a religious man and requested his release, arguing there is no reason to hold him in custody until the proceedings conclude.
