Effective immediately, airlines must submit crew details for all flights bound for Israel at least 48 hours prior to departure. This extended timeframe aims to provide security agencies with more preparation time and enhance civil aviation security.
Further requirements stipulate that airlines must provide an updated final crew list no later than two hours before takeoff. This measure follows a serious incident on a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30th. During that flight, the co-pilot allegedly attacked and stabbed the captain, causing the aircraft to begin a dive.
Reports suggest the co-pilot intended to seize control of the plane and crash it. The captain managed to open the cockpit door, and Israeli passengers reportedly entered the cockpit, assisted in subduing the co-pilot, and neutralized him. The aircraft was diverted and landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. The incident remains under investigation.
