Hapoel Tel Aviv has initiated discussions with defender Fernand Mayembo regarding a contract extension, aiming to secure him for an additional two years through the summer. Mayembo, a Congolese player who has become a valued member of the squad and was appointed captain, has expressed his desire to remain with Hapoel Tel Aviv if he continues playing in Israel. His only potential reason for leaving would be an offer from a top European league, particularly the French league, which he has historically favored.
In addition to Mayembo, the club is also expected to finalize new contracts by the summer with goalkeeper Assaf Tzur and Brazilian midfielder the midfielder. The midfielder, who faced criticism early in his tenure, has since become a crucial player for the team.
The club was not pleased with the draw for the State Cup, which pits them against rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv in the first round. However, they found some solace in securing home-field advantage, noting that while they prefer facing less challenging opponents early on, they have experienced poor luck with cup draws in recent years.
