Israeli military operations in several neighborhoods of Hebron, declared as closed military zones, have led to the displacement of 135 families, totaling over 3,200 individuals, according to Suhail Ashour, a member of the Hebron Municipal Council and the Support Crisis Cell Committee. Ashour stated that the military has been conducting these operations for about a week, forcing residents to leave their homes. Approximately 491 homes and families, comprising around 3,200 people, mostly children, women, and the elderly, have been affected. Many require regular medication, especially those with chronic illnesses.
Displaced families have sought refuge with relatives, while relief committees, in cooperation with the Hebron Municipality, the Governorate, the Red Crescent, and other official and civil institutions, are working to provide safe housing. So far, 35 families have been accommodated, but more assistance is needed as the crisis continues.
Municipal teams, coordinating with the Palestinian Civil Liaison, have managed to deliver food, water, electricity, and medical supplies to affected areas on two occasions, despite significant challenges. Urgent medical needs include dialysis for kidney patients, insulin for diabetics, and care for the elderly, pregnant women, and infants. Approximately one thousand children under the legal age, including infants, are in the besieged areas, requiring medical, psychological, and nutritional support.
The military closures have also disrupted education, with an estimated 80,000 students in Hebron unable to attend school. Schools and government institutions within the affected zones are closed, and many teachers and administrators cannot reach their workplaces.
Ashour expressed uncertainty about the duration of these measures, questioning their military necessity and suggesting they might be politically motivated for electoral purposes. He hoped that Arab parties successful in the recent Israeli elections would bring the plight of Palestinians to the Knesset and work to end the siege and ease restrictions not only in Hebron but also in other parts of the West Bank.
