A resident of Ofakim, in his 30s, has been indicted for two separate incidents of attempted theft and property damage. On September 28, 2026, the suspect allegedly entered a synagogue in the city, dismantled screws around the kitchenette door lock, and searched the premises. He then broke the lock of a cabinet, searched its contents, and left.

In a second incident on October 4, 2026, the suspect reportedly entered a mikveh building in Ofakim and attempted to pry a cash box from its place, causing damage. Following reports of these incidents, police in Ofakim launched an investigation, collecting evidence that led to the suspect's identification and arrest.

A prosecutorial unit for the Southern District filed an indictment against the suspect at the Beersheba Magistrate's Court. He faces charges including breaking into a place of worship with intent to commit theft, malicious property damage, and breaking into a building other than a dwelling or house of worship.

Moshe Bohdana, Commander of the Ofakim station, stated that police are acting decisively against property offenders and will continue to protect public institutions, places of worship, and residents' property and security.
