The Bazan Group, an oil refinery complex located in Haifa Bay, announced on Thursday that the Haifa Municipality has extended its temporary business operating permits by 60 days, subject to several conditions. This extension follows a legal challenge filed by Bazan companies against the municipality. The companies had petitioned the court to compel the municipality to renew their permits, which were set to expire on October 31st. The petition was submitted after Bazan companies were summoned for a hearing by the municipality, a hearing that had been postponed multiple times without a permit extension.
Bazan sought a court order for the municipality to renew the temporary permits and requested an interim order to ensure their validity until the petition was resolved. Following the legal filing, the municipality announced the 60-day extension and scheduled a hearing for approximately 30 days from the announcement. Bazan has informed the court of these developments and is assessing the impact on its legal proceedings.
In a separate but related matter, Bazan reported on a development concerning benzene emissions and renovation work at its Gadiv facilities. A directive has been issued under the Clean Air Law to limit or halt renovation work based on strict benzene environmental standards. This directive follows the suspension of work related to periodic maintenance at the Gadiv aromatic facilities, which Bazan had previously reported on October 12th.
Despite the delays, Bazan stated that its financial projections remain largely unchanged. However, the company cautioned investors that estimates regarding the duration, cost, and financial impact of the renovation work are uncertain and depend on approvals from the Ministry of Environmental Protection, further regulatory guidance, and contractor availability.
