Gaza Resident Caught After Seeking Shelter in Israeli Town

A 19-year-old resident of Jabalia, Gaza, was arrested in northern Israel after attempting to find shelter in the home of a resident of Gush Halav. The young man reportedly asked the resident to hide him until a mosque opened. The resident refused, and the Gaza man left the property. Following a report to the police on October 23, an investigation was launched by the Northern District. Investigators determined the suspect had fled in a Mercedes and was later located in the village of Buqei'a. He was apprehended in a joint operation by officers from the Northern and Coastal Districts. Also arrested was a 51-year-old woman from Fureidis. According to the investigation, she drove him to the mosque in Gush Halav to collect alms, receiving 520 shekels in return. Approximately 1,500 shekels in cash were found on the young man. After their arrests were extended, prosecutors filed charges against both individuals on October 26 in the Kiryat Shmona Magistrate's Court. Police stated they will continue to act against those who assist illegal residents in entering and staying in Israel.
