LeBron James has informed the Los Angeles Lakers management that he will not continue with the team for the 2026-27 NBA season, marking a significant shift in the league. The announcement, reported by ESPN, follows a strong personal season for the 41-year-old veteran, who is entering his 24th year in the NBA and shows no signs of retirement yet.

During the recent season, James averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds over 60 games, playing a leading role alongside teammates Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves. The Lakers secured the fourth seed in the Western Conference and won their first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets 4-2, with James stepping up especially in the absence of Dončić and Reaves. However, their playoff run ended in the Western Conference semifinals with a 4-0 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

As James looks ahead to the next chapter of his storied career, the key question remains where he will continue playing and whether he can pursue another NBA championship ring with a new team.
