A new Israeli settlement, "Giv'at Shomron," was established today in northern Samaria, marking the tenth such settlement founded by the Samaria Regional Council in under a year. Hundreds of people attended the ceremony for the new community, which is home to its first ten families, graduates of the Ramat Gan Hesder Yeshiva, led by Rabbi Yehoshua Shapira and Rabbi Ben Zion Algazi.

The settlement was established on land previously used as a training base for the Paratroopers Brigade, near the settlement of Sa-Nur in northern Samaria. Its establishment follows decisions by the Israeli cabinet and government aimed at expanding settlement activity in the region.

Attendees at the ceremony included Yossi Dagan, Head of the Samaria Regional Council; MK Boaz Bismuth, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee; Rabbi Berel Lazar, Chief Rabbi of Russia; Rabbi Yitzchak Kogan; Rabbi Yaakov Ariel; heads of the Ramat Gan Hesder Yeshiva; Ze'ev Hever, Secretary-General of Amanah; and the founding families.

The creation of Giv'at Shomron is part of the "Hit'chabrut Program" led by the Samaria Regional Council in cooperation with Amanah and the Settlement Division. This program aims to establish 19 new settlements in northern Samaria, replacing the four settlements evacuated during the 2005 disengagement, as part of the "Million in Samaria" initiative.
