The "Change Bloc" is reportedly considering appointing Yair Lapid as the next Knesset speaker within two weeks. Lapid, a prominent leader within the bloc, is currently slated to be second on Naftali Bennett's "Yamina" list and is not seeking the premiership. While most partners in the bloc have a positive relationship with Lapid, the decision has not yet been finalized. Other potential candidates for the speaker position include Oded Forer from Yisrael Beiteinu, Elazar Stern and Orit Farkash from "Yash" party, and Efrat Rayten from the Democratic Party.
The Change Bloc estimates that Arab parties' demands for replacing the current speaker, Amir Ohana, will be largely symbolic, potentially allowing the move to proceed soon. Following this, the bloc plans to discuss the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the October 7th failures and the repeal of judicial reform laws.
Preliminary election results, with 85.6% of votes counted, show the Likud party as the largest with 26 mandates. Yash! follows with 21 mandates, and Yamina and the Joint List each have 12. The Netanyahu bloc has secured 53 mandates, while the Gantz-led bloc has 48. The Democratic Party is projected to receive eight mandates, with Yahadut HaTorah, Yisrael Beiteinu, Otzma Yehudit, Ra'am, and Shas each obtaining seven. Religious Zionism-Identity is at the bottom with six mandates.
President Isaac Herzog has stated the need to "do everything possible to avoid further elections." Meanwhile, Likud claims that "Arab parties stole the elections."
