Israel's Ministry of Health announced on October 28, 2026, that a mixed-breed dog, medium-sized and light brown, has tested positive for rabies in Kibbutz Ma'agan Michael, located in the Hof HaCarmel Regional Council. Thirteen individuals who had contact with the infected dog have been referred for preventative rabies treatment.

The ministry is urging anyone who came into contact with the dog, or whose pets did, between October 11 and October 26, 2026, to urgently contact the Hadera Health Bureau or their nearest health office to assess the need for preventative treatment. Outside of working hours and on weekends, individuals should go to a hospital emergency room.

Parents are asked to check with their children about any contact with the dog or stray animals and to contact the health bureau if necessary. Pet owners whose animals may have had contact with the rabid dog should consult a municipal veterinarian for guidance.

The ministry also reminded the public that anyone bitten or scratched by an animal should immediately wash the wound with soap and running water for at least 10-15 minutes, disinfect the area, and promptly visit a health bureau to determine if preventative rabies treatment is required. No appointment is necessary for this assessment.
