The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will commence a special operation on Sunday to retrieve military equipment and weapons that were illegally removed during military service. The operation, led by the Technology and Logistics Directorate, will run for two weeks until the 12th of the month. Approximately 65 collection points will be established across IDF bases nationwide. During this period, both active-duty soldiers and reservists can return weapons, night vision devices, communication equipment, uniforms, protective gear including ceramic vests and helmets, medical supplies, and any other military equipment without needing to identify themselves or face prosecution for the illegal possession or transport of the items. The IDF stated the operation aims to reduce the risks associated with unauthorized possession of military gear, prevent it from falling into the hands of hostile elements, and ensure that weapons are held only by authorized personnel. Additionally, the initiative seeks to enable the reuse of functional items and minimize unnecessary procurement. A dedicated hotline, 6008*, has been set up for inquiries regarding the operation.
