During a private flight from New York to Toronto, Rabbi Yitzchak Dovid Grossman, the Rabbi of Migdal HaEmek and a recipient of the Israel Prize, discovered that the pilot was Jewish but had never celebrated his bar mitzvah. The flight was part of Rabbi Grossman's fundraising tour for the "Migdal Or" educational and welfare institutions. Upon landing in Canada, a spontaneous bar mitzvah ceremony, including the donning of tefillin for the first time, was held for the pilot on the tarmac. The pilot, who identified himself as Jewish but not observant, expressed his gratitude for the meaningful event. The impromptu ceremony was organized by Rabbi Grossman and his grandson, Rabbi Dov Berish Henech, with the participation of the other passengers.
