Hapoel Tel Aviv Ready for Toto Cup Final, Dismissing Previous Derby Loss

The Toto Cup final, the first major trophy of the 2026/27 Israeli football season, will see a heated Tel Aviv derby between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv at Bloomfield Stadium on Thursday. Hapoel Tel Aviv, seeking revenge for a 4-1 league defeat to their rivals, aims to secure the title. Coach Eliniiv Barda emphasized the importance of the match for the club, fans, and players, stating that the previous derby loss, which included a red card, did not reflect their defensive capabilities. Hapoel will be without midfielder Andrian Creve due to suspension and will also miss players Stav Turi'el and Emanuel Boateng, though Barda expressed confidence in the squad's depth.

Goalkeeper Assaf Tzur echoed Barda's sentiments, assuring that the previous loss was an anomaly and that the team would prove their strength. He acknowledged the pressure from fans but believes it can be channeled positively. Meanwhile, Maccabi Tel Aviv, coming off a strong league win, enters as the favorite. Captain Dor Peretz highlighted the significance of the derby for honor and the trophy, while coach Kenny Miller addressed team tactics and player availability. Miller also dismissed rumors linking him to a move to Burnley, affirming his commitment to Maccabi Tel Aviv until the end of the season.

The League Management also unveiled a new, modern design for the Toto Cup trophy, standing 50 cm tall with unique textures and spiral lines inspired by leading international football trophies. The winning captain will be the first to lift this new award.
