Israel's Ministry of Health has updated its travel recommendations for Africa due to the ongoing Ebola virus outbreak. The ministry advises against travel to specific affected provinces in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), including Ituri, Nord-Kivu, Sud-Kivu, Haut-Uélé, Tshopo, Bas-Uélé, Sud-Ubangi, and Nord-Ubangi. Additionally, non-essential travel to the rest of the DRC is discouraged. Travelers are also urged to avoid non-essential trips to neighboring countries such as Uganda, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, and the Republic of Congo. For those planning to travel to Kenya and Nigeria, where recent cases have been reported without community transmission, the ministry suggests reconsidering the necessity of the trip. For any travel to these nations, individuals must take precautions detailed on the Ministry of Health website, stay updated with local health authorities, and seek individual consultation at a travel clinic before departure.

The DRC has reported over 9,800 confirmed cases and at least 4,750 deaths from Ebola. The virus spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids and secretions of infected individuals, deceased persons, contaminated objects, or infected animals. The incubation period ranges from 2 to 21 days, with symptoms including fever, headaches, muscle aches, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Individuals returning from the DRC who develop a fever above 38 degrees Celsius or other unusual symptoms within 21 days of their stay are instructed to remain home, avoid contact with others, and call the Ministry of Health's hotline at *5400 for guidance. They are warned not to go to a medical facility without prior coordination, and to mention their stay in the DRC during the call. The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the Ebola outbreak and prepare for potential suspected cases, issuing further updates as needed.
