France will continue to advance the two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, irrespective of the results of the Israeli elections, stated French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Wednesday. Barrot emphasized in an interview with France 2 that France's policy will remain unchanged whether the coalition led by outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or the opposition bloc headed by Gadi Eisenkot wins.

France's stance on the matter is clear, with the minister reiterating the nation's commitment to ensuring Israel's security while also working towards the establishment of two states living side-by-side. These states, he added, should be recognized by the international community, have their rights respected, and live in peace.

Barrot refrained from commenting on whether relations might improve if the opposition bloc were to form the government. He also noted that France must allow democratic processes to unfold and accept the governments chosen by the people.

Relations between France and Israel have experienced tensions, particularly since President Emmanuel Macron expressed support for recognizing a Palestinian state approximately a year ago. More recently, Macron announced France's cessation of trade with West Bank settlements, a move largely attributed to campaigns against settler violence.
