Apple Unveils New iMac and MacBook Pro Models With M6 Chip

Apple has launched updated versions of its iMac and MacBook Pro computers, featuring the new M6 chip. The M6 chip, built on a 2-nanometer architecture, boasts a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, offering significant performance gains, particularly in graphics and on-device artificial intelligence tasks. Apple claims up to a 30% improvement in graphics performance and a 12-fold increase in 3D rendering compared to older M1 models. The new chip also includes a dual 16-core Neural Engine, enhancing AI processing speeds up to 1.9 times faster than the M5 and up to 13 times faster than the M1, enabling smoother local processing of large language models.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro now offers up to 24 hours of battery life, 16GB of unified memory in its base configuration (expandable to 32GB), and twice the storage speed. It features a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display, a 12-megapixel camera with Center Stage, six speakers with spatial audio, and a range of ports including three Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3 charging. The device is available in Space Black and Silver.

The refreshed iMac All-in-One desktop computer also incorporates the M6 chip, with options for a 10-core CPU/GPU or a 12-core CPU/GPU configuration. Apple states these models see up to a 5x boost in local AI performance and up to an 18x increase in overall processing speed compared to older Intel-based iMacs. The iMac retains its slim design and is available in seven colors, featuring a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display. Connectivity includes 2.5Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports supporting dual 6K external displays.

Both new models are available for pre-order in the US and 35 other countries, with shipments beginning November 6. The 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 for a 1TB SSD configuration, while the new iMac begins at $1,499 for the 10-core model and $1,699 for the 12-core version. Notably, the base iMac model comes with 256GB of internal storage, a decision Apple attributes to rising memory component costs, aiming to keep the entry price accessible. Official pricing for the Israeli market has not yet been announced.
