Serbian Policeman Wounded Outside Israeli Embassy in Belgrade Attack

A police officer guarding the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade was injured in an attack by a knife-wielding assailant, believed to be a minor, early Tuesday morning. The officer, acting in self-defense, fatally shot the attacker. Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated on state television RTS that the assailant shouted "Allahu Akbar" and declared the incident a terrorist act, subsequently raising the national terror alert to its highest level. The attacker, who originated from the western Serbian city of Sabac, was reportedly known to authorities as an Islamic State (IS) sympathizer. This incident follows a similar attack in June 2024, when a Serbian convert to Islam shot a security guard outside the same embassy with a crossbow. The guard, injured in the neck, returned fire fatally wounding the assailant. The guard required surgery following that attack.
