Yair Golan, leader of the Democratic Party, stated on Wednesday morning that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "lost the election." Golan's remarks came despite preliminary results indicating Netanyahu's bloc securing 56 seats compared to Gadi Eisenkot's bloc with 48 seats. Golan urged the formation of a new government in cooperation with Arab parties. He wrote on the X platform that "Netanyahu lost. I count to 120. 65 is a larger number than 55. This is how Israeli democracy works. Period. The reality must teach us a resounding lesson: we have no future if we don't stop being afraid, and if we don't stop being racist. We must not accept Netanyahu's racist division, which separates Jewish votes from Arab votes."
Golan continued, "The vote of an Israeli citizen who votes in Tayibe is exactly equal to the vote of an Israeli citizen who votes in Givat Shmuel. Exactly equal. Whoever tries to erase the votes of Arab citizens is surrendering to Netanyahu and giving up on the State of Israel. Now let's talk about Zionism. In Netanyahu's bloc sit 16 Knesset members from non-Zionist Haredi parties, who support mass evasion of military service while our sons fight and are killed." He added, "If Netanyahu insists on counting only the Zionist majority, he should subtract 16 Knesset members from his bloc from the non-Zionist Haredi parties. The change bloc has a Zionist majority: 49 versus 39. We have an opportunity to establish a government of change in partnership with Arab citizens of Israel. A government that serves all citizens of Israel. What is needed now is courage. What is needed now is leadership. We must stop being afraid and start working. A government of change must be established now."
