Avdija Stars as Portland Tops Dončić, Lakers in High-Scoring Game

Danny Avdija delivered a standout performance, contributing crucial points and a key assist in the final minute to help the Portland Trail Blazers secure a 136-129 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite facing early foul trouble and a strong showing from Luka Dončić, Avdija elevated his game in the decisive moments.

Avdija finished the game with 23 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and a steal in 33 minutes. His most impactful play came with 43.1 seconds remaining, when he drew defenders and found Damian Lillard open for a three-pointer that extended Portland's lead to six points, effectively sealing the win. Lillard, returning from a long injury layoff, added 21 points.

Portland's offense was well-balanced, with Ja Morant scoring 23 points and Jrue Holiday contributing 22 points, including a strong fourth quarter. Robert Williams added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Morant commented on the team's chemistry, stating, "I never thought we wouldn't have chemistry. After the trade, I just thought about what kind of player I would be and how I could help Portland. In the end, I'm a point guard and I knew I could relieve pressure from them, me and Dame can set up Danny for much easier shots, and vice versa."

On the Lakers' side, Luka Dončić led all scorers with 41 points and nine assists, but his efforts were not enough to overcome Portland's balanced attack and a somewhat disjointed team performance in the second half. Austin Reaves supported Dončić with 26 points. The win improved Portland's record to 3-0, while the Lakers suffered their first loss of the season after starting with three consecutive wins.
