The Volkswagen Golf R has been reintroduced to the Israeli market, marking its first regular sales in nearly a decade. The previous generation, the seventh Golf, offered 280 horsepower and a 0-100 km/h time of 5 seconds. The new, eighth-generation Golf R boasts a more powerful 2.0-liter engine, delivering 333 horsepower, a significant increase from the Golf GTI.
This enhanced engine, shared with models like the Cupra Formentor VZ, propels the Golf R from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The car features a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, adaptive suspension, and upgraded brakes. It also includes a launch control system and selectable driving modes, with a dedicated "R" mode. An optional Akrapovič titanium exhaust system is available for an additional NIS 30,000, reducing the car's 1,550 kg weight.
The Golf R is priced at NIS 310,000, just NIS 5,000 more than the Golf GTI 8.5, though the GTI currently has limited stock. The R model comes with premium features such as Nappa leather sport seats with heating and ventilation, a heated sport steering wheel with blue stitching, carbon fiber interior trim, a 12.9-inch multimedia screen, a 10.2-inch digital cockpit with an R-specific display, Matrix LED headlights, 360-degree cameras, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
Safety features are comprehensive, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic alert with braking, and emergency braking. The car is equipped with 9 airbags and advanced driver monitoring systems.
