The Central Elections Committee has ruled that flawed ballots will not be automatically disqualified in upcoming elections. Ballots with minor imperfections or unclear markings will be validated if the voter's intent can be clearly determined. The committee aims to count as many votes as possible, while still preventing voter identification.

  • Flawed ballots will not be automatically disqualified by the Central Elections Committee.
  • Voter intent must be clearly identifiable for a ballot to be validated.
  • Minor imperfections like dirt or printing errors will not void a ballot.
  • Ballots that could identify a voter will be disqualified.
  • The committee aims to validate votes whenever possible.

The Central Elections Committee, led by President Judge Noam Sohlberg, issued a directive Tuesday to polling stations stating that ballots with minor flaws will no longer be automatically disqualified. The instruction emphasizes making an effort to validate ballots and include votes as long as the voter's intended choice is clear. Minor issues such as small holes, dirt, or scribbles not made by the voter, printing defects, or slight deviations from the approved ballot sample will not lead to disqualification if the party choice remains evident.

Regarding the inscription "בס"ד" (B'ezrat Hashem - With God's Help) on ballots, the committee has not made a definitive ruling but indicated that such ballots may be validated if a large number are found and the voter's choice is clear, adhering to the principle of secret voting. However, any ballot that could potentially identify the voter will be set aside. If only one such ballot is found, it will be disqualified due to the risk of voter identification. If multiple identical ballots with potentially identifying marks are found, they may be counted as valid.

The committee stressed that the guiding principle is to count votes whenever possible and only disqualify them when absolutely necessary. All decisions regarding ballot validation will be documented in the polling station's protocol.
