  • Senator Ian Brossat urged Israelis to vote for the Joint List, citing its opposition to actions in Gaza and the West Bank.
  • Israel's Ambassador to France, Joshua Zarka, called Brossat's endorsement "brazen foreign interference."
  • The Joint List is an alliance of Hadash, Ta'al, and Balad, with Ofer Cassif as a candidate.
  • Brossat's family has a history of activism and espionage in Israel.
  • French Deputy Jérôme Guedj and Mayor Ariel Weil also expressed support for different Israeli political lists.

On the eve of Israel's legislative elections on October 27, French Senator Ian Brossat has intervened in the electoral campaign. In a video posted on X, Brossat addressed Israeli voters directly in Hebrew, with Hebrew subtitles, urging them to vote for the Joint List, led by former Knesset member Yousef Jabareen. Brossat expressed "full support" for the Joint List, calling it the "only list that opposes the genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank" and the sole party fighting "for peace, equality, and justice."

The Joint List is an alliance of three parties: Hadash, a Jewish-Arab left-wing party with roots in the Israeli communist movement; Ta'al, led by Ahmad Tibi; and Balad, an Arab nationalist movement. Ofer Cassif, a Jewish member of Knesset from Hadash, is listed in sixth position.

Brossat's involvement is linked to his family history. His mother, Sylvia Klingberg, was active in Matzpen, an Israeli far-left, anti-Zionist movement. His maternal grandfather, Marcus Klingberg, an Israeli scientist of Polish origin, was a prominent Soviet spy arrested in Israel. Brossat frequently visited Israel in his childhood and learned Hebrew during his stays.

The senator's post drew a sharp response from Joshua Zarka, Israel's Ambassador to France, who denounced it as "brazen foreign interference" on X. Zarka stated that Brossat's support for the "unified Arab list" at least acknowledges that "Israel is a great democracy, the only one in the Middle East."

Other French political figures have also commented on the Israeli elections. French Deputy Jérôme Guedj declared his support on X for Yaïr Golan and his list, which he described as having "many friends." Additionally, Ariel Weil, Mayor of Paris Centre and an Israeli native, traveled to his birth country to publicly support The Democrats (HaDemokratim), the party also led by Yaïr Golan.
