Heavy rains have begun in southern Israel's Negev desert and Arava region, prompting flood warnings and the closure of several key roads. The Israel Police have blocked Route 40 between Tze'elim Junction and Mitzpe Ramon, and Route 13 between Menucha Junction and Tze'elim Junction, due to the risk of flash floods.

Authorities are concerned about dangerous water flows in desert wadis and streams, which can occur even in areas not directly experiencing rainfall due to runoff from higher ground. The police have deployed additional forces to the southern district and are holding ongoing situation assessments to ensure public safety and minimize disruption.

In addition to the aforementioned closures, the northern entrance and exit to Eilat on Route 90 (the Arava Highway) were also blocked, along with Route 12.
