Israeli musician Noa Gruman is expanding her international metal career by joining the Dutch symphonic metal band Delain. Following the departure of their vocalist, Delain has decided to transition into a project format featuring collaborations with prominent musicians, including Gruman. Gruman, who also fronts the Israeli band Scardust and founded the a cappella metal choir Hellscore, will collaborate with other notable figures in the genre, such as Marco Hietala (formerly of Nightwish), Sharon den Adel (vocalist of Within Temptation), and Anneke van Giersbergen (formerly of The Gathering).

The first release from this collaboration is the single "We Are Fire," featuring Gruman singing alongside Fabian Erni of Eluveitie and singer Paolo Ribaldini. Gruman and her Hellscore choir will also contribute significantly to an upcoming album and Gruman is set to join Delain's European tour in February.

Delain founder Martijn Westerholt discovered Gruman after she led an orchestra accompanying the band Sabaton. Westerholt was impressed by Gruman's vocal performance, stating, "When I heard Noa sing, I was simply amazed by her voice and immediately knew I had to offer her a collaboration with Delain." Gruman described the creative process as natural and collaborative, involving remote idea exchange and studio recording sessions in the Netherlands.

Since October 7th, Gruman has navigated the international music industry with her Israeli identity, experiencing both opportunities and setbacks. She noted that many potential projects have fallen through, leading her to temper expectations. However, she finds deep meaning in the Delain collaboration because her collaborators are focused on her musical talent rather than her nationality. "If someone is bothered that I am Israeli, that's their problem," Gruman stated.

Despite facing some criticism in the comments section of the new music video, Westerholt publicly defended Gruman's participation. Gruman believes that Israeli musicians face a higher bar for international recognition, requiring them to exert significantly more effort than their non-Israeli counterparts. She feels that while a vocal minority may express negativity, the majority observes and accepts her presence as a musician among others. A particularly meaningful moment for her was meeting Marco Hietala, whom she admired as a child.

In parallel, Gruman continues to work with Scardust, which recently completed a US tour and is now focused on a new album. She views the Delain collaboration as a hard-earned achievement resulting from persistent effort, not a stroke of luck.
