The Medica Tel Aviv Medical Center has received approval to resume limited surgical operations after its surgical activity was suspended for nearly a month due to severe deficiencies. The Ministry of Health announced on Monday that only "basket" surgeries, which are publicly funded, can be restarted, while the ban on cosmetic surgeries remains in effect. This decision follows significant improvements made at the medical center after a Ministry of Health inspection revealed serious issues, and after its management committed to further corrective actions. A full resumption of activities has not yet been approved.

The closure order was issued on September 28, following a surprise inspection that uncovered deviations from medical procedures. These included medical procedures being performed by unauthorized personnel, as well as deficiencies in operating room management and work processes.

The authorization to resume operations also comes after a change in the center's management. Last week, CEO Anat Nussbaum announced her resignation, and Dr. Eitan Hai-Am, former Director-General of the Ministry of Health and CEO of Soroka and Assuta Medical Centers, was appointed as her replacement. His appointment aims to lead the rectification of deficiencies and strengthen oversight and control mechanisms at the center. The Ministry of Health emphasized that it will continue to monitor the center's activities and will deal severely with any deviations from procedures and professional authorities designed to ensure patient safety.
