Rare Feat: Hapoel Be'er Sheva Goalie Stops Penalty

Hapoel Be'er Sheva goalkeeper Ofir Marciano achieved a rare feat by saving a penalty kick from Bruninho during a match against Maccabi Haifa at Sammy Ofer Stadium. This save prevented Maccabi Haifa from potentially re-entering the game, which Hapoel Be'er Sheva dominated with a strong second half. This marks Marciano's second penalty save of the season, having previously stopped a penalty from Dor Peretz. However, his overall penalty save record is statistically uncommon.

According to Transfermarkt, Marciano's last penalty save before this season was during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers for the national team against Scotland. This season alone, he has conceded four goals from penalties. Throughout his career, Marciano has saved seven penalties, while 44 have been scored against him.

The save and Hapoel Be'er Sheva's impressive performance, attributed to coach Ran Kozuch's tactics, generated significant buzz on social media. Users expressed admiration for Marciano's return to form, with one user noting, "Marciano is a huge story, it looked like he was on his way to retirement and from nowhere he returned to the game." Others praised the team's "crazy ten minutes" and called it a "statement" from Be'er Sheva.
