Israel's police have intensified efforts to combat domestic disinformation campaigns ahead of the upcoming general elections, operating their cyber unit around the clock. The focus is on identifying fake social media profiles, AI-generated videos, and coordinated groups aiming to manipulate public opinion. This special operation by the police intelligence unit "Matzpen" will continue until polling stations close on Tuesday evening.

Investigators have already taken down two significant networks engaged in manipulative influence operations on X and Facebook. According to Ynet, citing law enforcement sources, the cyber unit has been monitoring suspicious online activity for the past six months. While the Shin Bet security service monitors for foreign interference, the police are concentrating on domestic actors.

Perpetrators are reportedly using fake accounts of real citizens, fabricating statements attributed to prominent politicians, and publishing paid comments to create a false impression of public support. The Yashar party, led by former chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot, has filed a formal complaint regarding a fake party message. In response, law enforcement has submitted urgent requests to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X administrations through the state prosecutor's office to immediately remove harmful content.

Police officials acknowledged that they can only identify a fraction of manipulators in the current environment. Their primary goal is to quickly block false information before it spreads widely among voters. Authorities are urging citizens to critically evaluate online political content and rely only on verified sources.
