Students at the Ulpanat Meron religious girls' school in northern Israel spent election night preparing and delivering hot meals to bereaved families, wounded soldiers' families, and active combat soldiers in the region. The initiative was part of a special budget allocated to the school by the "Derech Kefar" (Way of the Village) organization as part of its "Adding Good, Choosing to Do Good" program, which encourages educational institutions nationwide to engage in volunteer activities around election days.
The students overwhelmingly chose meal preparation over watching election coverage. After purchasing ingredients with the allocated funds, they cooked the meals and then personally delivered them to families in the area. Each student selected a specific family to receive the meal she prepared.
Orit Gross, the middle school principal, stated that the activity aimed to foster unity and positive action amidst national divisions. She emphasized that the volunteer effort, while not demanding, could bring significant comfort to families receiving a specially prepared meal. Elchanan Glatt, CEO of the Center for Yeshivas and Ulpanot Bnei Akiva, praised the students' choice to focus on unifying actions and highlighted the meal preparation as an important lesson in responsibility and mutual guarantee.
