A new general rehabilitation department and an expansion of the rehabilitation services have been inaugurated at the Medical Camp Hospital in Bat Yam. The ceremony was attended by prominent halachic decisor Rabbi Shlomo Machpud, who affixed a mezuzah to the department's entrance and offered blessings. Rabbi Machpud emphasized the profound importance of healing and rehabilitation, stating, "The world stands on kindness. This place is a place of rehabilitation, where there is unparalleled kindness, to lift a person from their suffering." He prayed that those involved would be successful in helping people regain their health and strength.
Rabbi Machpud's grandson, Yosef David Mugrabi, shared that the rabbi viewed the verse "The righteous may fall seven times, but rise again" as embodying the essence of rehabilitation, signifying the ability to recover from physical or mental setbacks. He also noted that "Medical Camp" is an acronym for this concept of rising after a fall.
The new department, which received official operating permits this month, is opening with 17 beds and will expand to 38. This expansion will increase the hospital's total rehabilitation beds from 76 to 114, a 50% increase, significantly easing the burden on the healthcare system. The hospital employs a unique integrative rehabilitation approach, combining advanced medical and physical therapy with emotional, psychological, and spiritual support, tailored to each patient's individual needs and values.
Hospital Director Emil Elyonaski highlighted the critical need for timely rehabilitation, stating the goal is to allow more patients to begin their recovery process promptly in a professional environment. CEO Shauli Hertzig Paz added that the war has intensified the demand for rehabilitation services, requiring the system to simultaneously treat war casualties and thousands of other patients needing complex rehabilitation due to illness or surgery. He stressed the hospital's role in increasing treatment availability and supporting the public health system.
