  • Over 1,200 British Jews attended Aliyah fairs in London this week, considering immigration to Israel.
  • More than 2,500 Britons have immigrated to Israel since October 2023, a significant increase.
  • A MedEx event connected 130 Jewish healthcare professionals with Israeli health officials.
  • 20 doctors began their licensing process at MedEx, with on-site Hebrew exams offered.
  • Immigration from the UK saw an 80% rise in 2024 compared to the previous year.

London hosted large-scale Aliyah (immigration to Israel) fairs and a specialized medical event, MedEx, this week, attracting over 1,200 British Jews considering a move to Israel. These events highlight a significant increase in immigration from the United Kingdom, with over 2,500 individuals having made Aliyah since October 2023.

The MedEx event, held for the second time in London, connected approximately 130 Jewish healthcare professionals with representatives from Israeli government ministries, hospitals, and health funds. The initiative aims to address Israel's healthcare workforce shortage by removing professional and bureaucratic obstacles before immigration. During the event, about 20 doctors initiated their licensing processes, receiving guidance on specialization recognition, employment opportunities in the Negev, Galilee, and Gaza envelope regions, and information on support grants. For the first time, doctors could take a Hebrew proficiency exam on-site, potentially speeding up their integration.

MedEx is part of a national program led by the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of the Negev, Galilee and National Resilience, and Nefesh B'Nefesh, in collaboration with the Jewish Agency and philanthropic foundations. The program has facilitated the immigration of over 1,300 doctors globally since its launch, exceeding half of its five-year goal of 2,000 doctors.

Concurrently, the "Ofek Israeli" organization, in partnership with the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration and the Jewish Agency, organized a major Aliyah fair that drew over 1,200 participants. This strong turnout reflects a sustained rise in interest among British Jews since the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023. Since that date, Aliyah files have been opened for approximately 5,000 individuals from the UK. Immigration figures show a substantial increase, with about 700 immigrants in 2024, an 80% rise from 391 in the previous year, and this trend continues into 2025 and 2026.

Minister of Aliyah and Integration Ofir Sofer stated that the high participation demonstrates the deep connection of British Jewry to Israel and their growing desire to build a future there, emphasizing the strengthening of the country through immigration and the special importance of attracting doctors to bolster the healthcare system. Tony Gilber, Co-founder and Chairman of Nefesh B'Nefesh, highlighted MedEx's role in connecting overseas doctors with Israel's healthcare system and assisting them in turning their desire to immigrate into an actionable plan. Jewish Agency Chairman Doron Almog described immigration as a growth engine for Israel, with each immigrant serving as a beacon of hope, particularly during the current times, and stressed the agency's responsibility to facilitate their transition and integration.
