Austrian Airlines Flight Crew Expresses Relief as Israeli Passengers Aid Medical Emergency

A routine overnight flight operated by Austrian Airlines from Washington to Vienna turned into a medical emergency last weekend, culminating in an impromptu display of mutual aid. The incident began when a passenger collapsed in the darkened aisle of the plane. Responding to calls for help, Israeli investigator and lecturer Regav Ben David, along with two other doctors, Dr. Dana Gefen Doron and a psychiatrist, immediately stepped in to assist the collapsed passenger.

While providing first aid and stabilizing the passenger's condition, a remarkable coincidence emerged. Dr. Gefen Doron recognized the patient as Israeli and began speaking with him and his wife in Hebrew. It then became clear that not only the patient and his wife, but also the three Israeli volunteers who came to their aid, were all en route to Tel Aviv.

The Austrian flight attendants were reportedly greatly relieved by this discovery, having been alarmed by the emergency. Astonished that the makeshift medical team and the patient shared a common language and nationality, they expressed immense relief. "They looked at us in amazement and said, 'So you are all Israelis? How lucky we are,'" recounted Dr. Gefen Doron, adding that the crew visibly relaxed knowing Israelis were managing the situation.

The drama concluded successfully with the patient's recovery. After landing in Vienna, the involved parties shared coffee before their connecting flight to Israel, a meeting Ben David described as "sitting with four friends who already know each other." The story gained significant traction on social media, offering many an uplifting moment of camaraderie and Israeli solidarity.
