Israeli solar energy company SolarEdge is laying off approximately 200 employees, representing about 10% of its workforce. Market sources indicate that only a few dozen of these layoffs will occur in Israel. This marks another round of job cuts for the Nasdaq-traded company, which has previously implemented significant workforce reductions and efficiency measures. The latest move comes despite SolarEdge reporting improved financial results in the second quarter of 2026, with revenues rising 20% year-over-year to $346 million and net losses narrowing to $16 million from $115 million. The company also achieved a non-GAAP operating profit of about $10 million, its first since the second quarter of 2023.
However, SolarEdge's forecast for the third quarter fell short of analyst expectations, projecting revenues of $310-$340 million compared to market estimates of $371 million. Following the August earnings report, the company's stock price dropped by over 20%. This latest round of layoffs follows previous significant cuts, including about 900 employees in January 2024 (550 in Israel) and another 400 in July 2024. In January 2025, an additional 400 employees worldwide were affected.
These reductions are part of a broader strategy to cut expenses and align operations with market conditions. CEO Shuki Nir noted in the latest report that the company is recovering, partly due to strong demand in Europe and from commercial and industrial clients in the U.S., which offset weakness in the U.S. residential market. SolarEdge is also expanding into new areas, such as energy solutions for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
