Israeli Lawyer Charged With Contacting Foreign Agent, Obstructing Justice

The State Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against an Israeli lawyer in the Central District Court in Lod, accusing her of offenses including contact with a foreign agent and obstruction of justice. A request to extend her detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings was also submitted. Details of the case are prohibited from publication. The court granted a request from security officials to reveal only that the lawyer was arrested approximately two and a half weeks ago by the Shin Bet and the police. Investigation findings indicated she maintained contact with a foreign agent in violation of the law and also obstructed investigative proceedings.

Earlier this month, an indictment was filed against an Israeli citizen for security offenses. A gag order is in effect for that case as well. The court, responding to security officials' requests, permitted the publication that the defendant was arrested for Shin Bet and police investigation on suspicion of security offenses. During his interrogation, it emerged that he was operated by foreign intelligence elements and was involved in foreign influence activities. The prosecution stated, "Upon completion of his investigation, an indictment and arrest request until the end of proceedings were filed against him for security offenses attributed to him in light of his operation by foreign intelligence elements against the State of Israel."
