Israeli police have filed charges against a suspect accused of breaking into a business at the Nir Banim gas station in Kiryat Malachi, stealing property and a vehicle. The suspect was ultimately apprehended thanks to DNA evidence left on a sandwich he consumed at the scene.
Approximately one month ago, police received a report of a break-in at the gas station, which resulted in property damage and the theft of a vehicle belonging to the owners. Officers from the Kiryat Malachi station and forensic investigators from the Lachish region collected evidence from the crime scene.
Investigators discovered that the burglar had taken a break during the commission of the crime to eat a sandwich. A laboratory analysis of the DNA found on the sandwich quickly identified the suspect, leading to his arrest. His detention has been extended periodically, and the Lachish region's prosecution unit has now filed an indictment against him, along with a request for his continued detention until the legal proceedings conclude.
