Professor Moshe Cohen-Eliya stated on Monday that the trial of Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed Israel's true power structure, which he described as corrupt. Speaking on Radio Galey Israel, Cohen-Eliya, who identifies as being from the left, expressed astonishment at Netanyahu's resilience under pressure during the legal proceedings.
Cohen-Eliya referenced a past statement by Professor Gabi Gabizon, who identified the prosecution, police, and media as forming a corrupt power structure in Israel. "What is revealed before our eyes is precisely this power structure that works full-time," Cohen-Eliya asserted.
He further claimed that Avichai Mandelblit, the former Attorney General, did not believe in the cases against Netanyahu and felt there was insufficient evidence, a sentiment Cohen-Eliya agreed with. However, Mandelblit "could not withstand the pressure," according to Cohen-Eliya. He added that if a legal advisor is "holding someone by the throat," they cannot function properly and become a "puppet of Shai Nitzan," which he believes is what happened to Mandelblit.
The article also notes that Ayala Hasson expressed shock regarding the developments, stating, "In my worst nightmares, I never dreamed this would happen."
