A unique three-month project culminating in a festive event in Beit She'an concluded with 140 soldiers from the "Netzach Yehuda" battalion completing an intensive study of Sabbath laws. Seven outstanding soldiers who demonstrated exceptional halachic knowledge advanced to the final stage of the competition.
The initiative was led by Rabbi Adir Almoshnino, a rabbi from the "Netzach - The National Union for the Integration of the Haredi" association and a graduate of the battalion. He was supported by a group of scholars from Beit She'an, each teaching different aspects of Sabbath law, including forbidden objects (muktzeh), cooking, and selection (borer).
Rabbi Almoshnino stated that the soldiers delved into complex and practical halachic issues relevant to observant Jews, particularly soldiers facing Sabbath challenges during their service. He emphasized that Torah study protects soldiers on the battlefield.
The final competition was attended by Rabbi Tzvi Kalbano, president of the 'Netzach' association, Rabbi Yitzchak Bar Chaim, a co-founder of the Haredi Nahal and 'Netzach' association, Rabbi Binyamin Huta, and Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Lasri, the Chief Rabbi of Beit She'an, who encouraged the participants.
Soldiers described the program as life-changing, bridging their spiritual world with the demanding training schedule. They noted that learning Sabbath laws in depth provided practical tools, preparing them to be not only physical protectors of the country but also observant of Sabbath laws.
