Man Charged with Manslaughter After Fatal Fight Over Escaped Dog

Daniel Solomatov has been indicted for negligent homicide after allegedly attacking and fatally stabbing his roommate, Yuri Korneyev, because the victim allowed his dog to escape their shared apartment. Solomatov reportedly beat and stabbed Korneyev, who died from his injuries two weeks later in the hospital. The incident began during an argument, after which Solomatov attacked Korneyev, then left to find his dog. Upon returning with the dog, Solomatov was approached by Korneyev, who was holding a kitchen knife and stabbed Solomatov in the waist. In response, Solomatov began punching Korneyev, managed to take the knife, and threw it away. Solomatov then chased Korneyev, who retreated to his room, and continued to punch him in the head, face, and chest, even after Korneyev lost consciousness. The prosecution is seeking Solomatov's detention until the legal proceedings conclude, arguing that his dangerousness is evident from the crime's circumstances. They stated that even if the incident began with Korneyev attacking Solomatov with a knife, Solomatov did not act in self-defense but rather engaged in an unrestrained act of revenge. The prosecution detailed that after the knife was removed, Solomatov pursued the victim, knocked him down, and systematically and destructively attacked him, including a knee strike to the chest and a series of punches to the head and upper body, continuing even after Korneyev lost consciousness.
