Father Indicted for Severely Abusing Infant Daughter

A 26-year-old father from southern Israel has been indicted in the Beersheba District Court for severely assaulting his one-month-old daughter, causing her life-threatening injuries. The indictment details multiple instances where the father allegedly used significant physical force against the infant. Investigations by the Ashdod police revealed the extent of the abuse, which resulted in multiple rib fractures on both sides, some causing lung hemorrhages, a fracture of the right femur, chest fluid, and bleeding in her eyes. Doctors were forced to sedate and ventilate the baby for five days, immobilize her broken leg, and insert a chest drain.

Initially, the father claimed the injuries were accidental, suggesting his daughter's leg broke when a dog leash became entangled around it during a dog fight. However, security footage presented by investigators contradicted this account, leading him to retract the story and admit the incidents occurred, though he claimed his actions only "looked aggressive from the side." Prosecutors consider this admission a key piece of evidence.

Despite the father having no prior criminal record, the prosecution emphasized his high level of danger due to the severity of the abuse against his infant daughter. The prosecution indicated it may seek a prison sentence if he is convicted. The court was asked to maintain his bail conditions, which include a restraining order preventing contact with his daughter, a prohibition on being near infants without adult supervision, an exit ban from Israel, and significant financial guarantees, pending the conclusion of legal proceedings.
