Seventeen-year-old Israeli midfielder Orion Goren was named to the Barcelona squad for Sunday's El Clásico match against Real Madrid at Camp Nou. Goren is the first Israeli ever to be included in the squad for the high-profile fixture, and if he plays, he will become the first Israeli to appear in an El Clásico game. Goren, who developed in the youth system of Maccabi Petah Tikva before joining Barcelona's academy in 2023, currently plays for the club's reserve team. He impressed the senior team's coach, Hansi Flick, during preseason training and was called up for practices ahead of the Real Madrid match. The injury to Dani Olmo created an opening for Goren to be included in the senior squad for an official game. Catalan media have praised Goren's technical ability and game intelligence, drawing comparisons to Barcelona player Pedri. Barcelona enters the match leading La Liga with a perfect nine wins, six points ahead of Real Madrid. A victory would extend this lead to nine points.
