Cybersecurity firm Check Point has reported a significant increase in cyberattacks targeting Israel in the lead-up to the 2026 elections. The company's findings indicate a rise in malicious websites, phishing attempts, and influence networks aimed at disrupting the democratic process and sowing public distrust. In the past two months, over 1,200 new websites related to Israeli elections were registered, with one in every 47 flagged as suspicious. Attacks against Israel have escalated, with organizations experiencing an average of 2,700 weekly cyberattacks in early October, a 55% increase from the previous year. The government sector saw a 82% rise in attacks, while energy and infrastructure faced a 107% surge.

Check Point's research also uncovered the circulation of sensitive data on the dark web, including a database of approximately 6.5 million Israeli voters and personal details of 38,000 soldiers and police officers. These leaks, some dating back to 2020 and 2025, are believed to be exploited for fraudulent purposes, such as sending fake messages to voters requesting personal information verification or spreading misinformation about voting eligibility. Phishing campaigns have impersonated official voter information services to steal identity numbers, addresses, and email details.

In parallel, anti-Israeli hacking groups, particularly those linked to Iran, have intensified their public dissemination of alleged cyberattack spoils. This includes videos, images, and files related to Israeli public figures, IDF bases, and personal data of officials. Analysis attributes 53% of these incidents to pro-Palestinian hacktivists, 18% to Indonesian hacktivists, and 10% to criminal elements. Discussions on the dark web regarding Israel and elections have increased by 110% since September, with groups planning Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on key Israeli government websites, including the Prime Minister's Office, the Knesset, and the Bank of Israel, as well as political party sites.

Law enforcement is also actively combating these threats. The Israel Police, in collaboration with the State Attorney's Office Cyber Department, dismantled a network of suspicious accounts on X (formerly Twitter) suspected of attempting to unduly influence the public. Experts also warn of a significant technological escalation driven by artificial intelligence (AI), which could enable attackers to conduct large-scale, complex operations autonomously, targeting election systems, parties, or individuals with access to sensitive information. This AI-driven threat poses a challenge to human-paced defense systems, potentially disrupting systems, leaking data, and undermining public trust in the electoral process.

Check Point advises organizations to ensure their defenses against denial-of-service attacks are active, implement multi-factor authentication, and update passwords. They also recommend monitoring for impersonating sites and accounts, and establishing rapid response and recovery plans. The public is urged to verify information solely through official channels, avoid sharing personal details via unsolicited links, and critically assess information before sharing, as wide distribution does not guarantee credibility. Sivan Dror, Director of Research in Exposure Management at Check Point, emphasized the critical nature of this period and the need for robust protection and rapid response.
