Eighteen-year-old Maayan Goren, considered a top future talent in Israeli women's basketball, has committed to Quinnipiac University, where she will receive a historic record scholarship for a player in the MAAC conference. Goren, who previously played for Wingate Academy and Hapoel Galil Elyon/Ma'ayanot's youth teams, was named Rookie of the Year in the National League at age 15. She then moved to Canada's Crestwood Preparatory College, known for developing players for college and the WNBA. In her first season in Canada's top high school league, Goren averaged 12.3 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

The Canadian Basketball Association, through Crestwood coach Marlo Davis who also coaches Canada's U19 team, expressed interest in recruiting Goren for their youth national team. Despite the ease of immigration procedures for Canadians and an offer from Canada, Goren chose to continue representing Israel. She previously played successfully for Israel's U16 team and led the U18 team to promotion to the top division and the EuroBasket Division B championship, scoring 22 points in the final against host Romania and earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

As part of her commitment to Quinnipiac, Goren secured a written guarantee from the head coach allowing her to play for Israel's national teams each summer. This was a significant factor in her college choice. This commitment letter is expected to be submitted to the Israel Basketball Association as part of her application for recognition as an outstanding athlete, a status she is anticipated to meet based on updated criteria.
