Shin Bet Chief Visited Paris Amid French Riots, Diplomatic Tensions

Shin Bet Director David Zini reportedly visited Paris on October 20 to meet with senior French intelligence officials, according to Israeli public broadcaster Kan. The visit occurred during a period of significant civil unrest in France, marked by widespread riots and urban violence. Zini is said to have met with representatives from France's General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) and General Directorate for External Security (DGSE).

The discussions reportedly focused on counter-terrorism efforts, combating Islamist extremism, and shared security threats facing both nations. This meeting is notable given the ongoing diplomatic strain between France and Israel, stemming from disagreements over the Gaza war, the Palestinian issue, and bilateral military relations.

Despite political tensions between French President Emmanuel Macron and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, intelligence cooperation appears to be continuing. The Shin Bet's extensive experience in preventing attacks, domestic intelligence gathering, and monitoring terrorist networks is considered valuable to French authorities dealing with complex security challenges.
