Traffic police in the Yarkon region have issued 215 tickets since the beginning of the week as part of an enforcement operation targeting life-threatening and aggressive driving offenses. The operation, conducted both covertly and openly, utilized tactical cameras to document violations and identify dangerous drivers. The police released footage of offenses captured by these cameras.

Among the violations recorded were 14 tickets for running red lights, 15 for using mobile phones while driving, and 92 for lane violations and aggressive driving. Additionally, nine vehicles were removed from the road following inspections by traffic examiners.

This enforcement initiative follows a decision made by the Police Traffic Division approximately two months ago to adjust speed camera enforcement thresholds based on road conditions and professional assessment, rather than the previous fixed margin of 10-15 km/h above the speed limit. This change was based on a comprehensive professional review of speed cameras nationwide, analyzing road characteristics, traffic volume, accident data, casualties, and risk factors for each road segment.

Following this review, Head of the Traffic Division, Superintendent Haim Shemueli, decided to update the enforcement thresholds for cameras to better match actual road conditions and specific risks. The police emphasized that the primary goal of this enforcement is not to issue tickets, but to save lives, prevent accidents, and create deterrence to reduce road fatalities and injuries.
