Construction is set to begin next week on a new lighting and high-voltage power line project connecting the settlements of Itamar and Alon Moreh in the Samaria region, at a cost of 18 million shekels. The project, spearheaded by the Samaria Regional Council, is expected to take approximately ten months to complete.
The initiative aims to enhance safety and security on Route 555, a stretch of road where Naama and Eitam Henkin were murdered in a 2015 terror attack, alongside other incidents. The new lighting will complement existing infrastructure and improve conditions for travelers.
In addition to the lighting, a new high-voltage power line will be installed to stabilize and improve the electricity supply to Alon Moreh. Currently, the settlement relies on a single line that passes through Palestinian Authority territory, complicating maintenance and repairs. The new line will provide a crucial backup and reduce dependence on the existing infrastructure.
Yossi Dagan, Head of the Samaria Regional Council, stated that the project is a vital step towards realizing the vision of one million residents in Samaria, emphasizing that "the vision of a million residents in Samaria begins with infrastructure." He highlighted the project's importance for the growth of local communities and the overall future of the region, noting the special security significance of improved lighting on the road where the Henkin couple was killed. Dagan also extended thanks to Transportation Minister Miri Regev, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, Energy Minister Eli Cohen, and the CEOs of Netivei Israel and the Israel Electric Corporation, among other officials, for their roles in advancing the project. Temporary traffic arrangements will be in place during construction, and drivers are advised to proceed with caution.
