Former Israeli League Guard Marcus Carr Excels in EuroLeague

Marcus Carr, a guard who previously played for Israeli teams Hapoel Galil Elyon and Bnei Herzliya, has become a standout player for Virtus Bologna in the EuroLeague. Carr is set to face his former team Hapoel Tel Aviv on Thursday evening.

Carr has emerged as a key player for Virtus Bologna, which has won its last four EuroLeague games and ranks third in assists per game in the league. He is averaging 14.7 points, 5.8 assists, and only 1.7 turnovers per game, with an impressive assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.4. His performances include a 22-point, 10-assist game against Olympiacos and a near double-double against Milan. He also recorded a 21-point, 13-assist double-double in just 25 minutes against Maximna Roma.

His success is attributed to the trust placed in him by Virtus coach Alex Mumbru, who gave Carr significant offensive responsibility. This mirrors his experience in Israel, where he transitioned from a role player in Herzliya to a primary scorer and playmaker for Galil Elyon. Former coaches, including Dan Shamir, have noted his improved decision-making and control on the court.

Carr's development was further boosted by his time in Germany with Würzburg, where he was called up to the Canadian national team and led the Basketball Champions League in scoring and assists last season. His current role with Virtus Bologna, a team known for its fast-paced and versatile style of play, suits his athletic abilities and playmaking skills, allowing him to balance individual talent with team-oriented basketball.
