Hezbollah Rebuilding Capabilities in Beirut, Israeli Security Source Warns

A security official has revealed that Hezbollah is actively rebuilding its capabilities in Beirut, according to a report by Walla. The Israeli military (IDF) is preparing for the possibility of renewed conflict with the organization, particularly if Hezbollah attacks Israel's home front in response to escalation with Iran. The official also expressed dissatisfaction with the Lebanese army's enforcement of agreements.

Recently, the Lebanese army uncovered a tunnel near Rweissat al-Jadida in East Beirut, attributed to Hezbollah. The security source suggested this public disclosure by the Lebanese army was a symbolic gesture, highlighting activity within Beirut itself. Hezbollah has reportedly relocated capabilities to the capital from southern Lebanon, with some of these being rebuilt after being damaged or destroyed by Israeli airstrikes.

"We are not satisfied with the Lebanese mechanism, and the issue of Hezbollah's tunnels does not surprise us," the official stated. He speculated that the tunnel's exposure might be linked to ongoing Israeli discussions with Lebanon. "In the final analysis, they are not enforcing the understandings as we would expect. There are terror infrastructures and the presence of terror operatives in southern Lebanon."

The source further indicated that Hezbollah is not only rebuilding in southern Lebanon but also in Beirut and Tyre, areas with significant Shiite populations. "We know there are many terror infrastructures there and also Hezbollah's attempts to rearm. They are working on rehabilitation and rearmament not only in southern Lebanon. Also in Beirut and Tyre where the most significant Shiite population centers are located."

Regarding the military wing's readiness, the official noted Hezbollah's significant effort to regain operational experience and optimal fitness. One scenario presented to Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir includes Hezbollah joining a fight and attacking Israel's home front if the U.S. or Israel strikes Iran. Hezbollah is believed to still possess diverse combat capabilities, including rockets, various-range missiles, and challenging drone systems, sufficient for several months of fighting. The organization is also working around the clock to train anti-tank and observation units in preparation for future conflict along the Lebanon border.
