Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several former senior officials have been summoned to testify before a state commission investigating the procurement of submarines and other naval vessels. The closed-door hearings will allow five individuals, who received official warnings in 2024, to present their positions before the commission decides on their potential personal responsibility.
In addition to Netanyahu, former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen, ex-Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon, former Navy commander Ram Rotberg, and former National Security Council official Avner Simhoni have been called to testify. They are among those who received official warnings regarding the affair.
Also invited to testify are IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, Navy Commander Eyal Harel, and former Israeli President Reuven Rivlin. These individuals are not among those who received official warnings in the case.
In January, the commission reported systemic deficiencies in the procurement of naval vessels during previous Netanyahu governments. It also noted that Germany's sale of military ships to Egypt, which Israel approved, posed a threat to national security. Final conclusions on personal responsibility will be made after all warned individuals have had the opportunity to defend themselves.
