Barak Itzhaki has officially been appointed as the new head coach of Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta, signing a two-year contract. This marks Itzhaki's second permanent head coaching position and his first since departing from his previous role with Beitar Jerusalem. His debut on the sidelines is expected as early as this coming Saturday in a match against Omonia Aradippou.
Anorthosis has had a difficult start to the season, securing only one win in six games, placing them 13th in the league standings. Itzhaki, 42, will manage players including Norwegian goalkeeper Jakob Karlström and 29-year-old defender Nemanja Tusić. Itzhaki himself played for Anorthosis during the 2012/13 season.
Several Israeli coaches have previously managed teams in Cyprus, such as Eli Guttman and Nir Klinger. Notably, Roni Levy coached Anorthosis for two separate stints. Itzhaki's prior coaching experience includes leading Beitar Jerusalem between 2024 and 2026, where he achieved a second-place finish last season, marking the team's most successful season in the past 15 years.
