Israeli Local Authorities Embrace Smart City Technologies at Muni Expo 2026

Muni Expo 2026, held at Expo Tel Aviv, showcased Israel's expanding ecosystem of technology companies, startups, public bodies, banks, and government offices collaborating with local authorities. The event highlighted how municipalities are evolving beyond basic administration to become hubs of innovation addressing digital transformation, emergency preparedness, energy, and infrastructure. Haim Bibas, chairman of the Local Government Center in Israel, emphasized the exhibition's broad vision of urban management and resident services, noting that local authorities and the Home Front Command are the primary bodies managing events at the resident level. He stressed that increased local authority powers will improve city efficiency and resident services.

Itzik Lari, chairman of Mifal HaPais, linked the expo to social and economic challenges ahead, highlighting efforts to reduce disparities between central and peripheral regions. The expo featured over 150 companies and startups focused on smart, safe, and digital cities. Key participants included Milgam, leading digital municipal services with 24/7 availability, and Mercantile Bank, which recently partnered with Mifal HaPais on green energy initiatives.

Emergency and continuity systems were prominent, with YTCOM presenting Mission Critical PTT, a real-time communication platform connecting emergency responders and security officers. Other exhibitors demonstrated AI-driven data analysis, spatial mapping by the Survey of Israel, and integrated digital government services aimed at streamlining resident access. Liron Doron Levy, CEO of the Local Government Center, highlighted the shift toward centralized digital platforms like MuniBox, simplifying resident interactions.

Startups and design studios showcased innovations linking urban needs with technology, including pilot projects in municipalities. VoiceSpin introduced AI-powered multilingual customer service bots, while CommX Team focused on enhancing citizen security through rapid event detection and automated alerts. The expo underscored the transformation of resident services and the ambition of local authorities to lead this change across Israel.
